With figurines children engage in imaginative play (also called role play, dramatic, thematic, narrative, fantasy or symbolic play). Such play begins in the second year of a child's life and continues in various forms into adulthood. In imaginative play children create verbal and mental plans of action, take on roles, and rearrange objects and actions so that they can express their feelings and thoughts. These games improve a child's memory, enrich language, expand vocabulary, strengthen the child's ability to reason even when faced with conflicting facts, and encourage flexible and inventive thinking.
